9:15-10:30 "DB2 Application Performance APRTI (Access Path Run Time Investigation)”
Presenter: Randy Ebersole , IBM Corporation
The DB2 Optimizer is responsible in choosing the best access path to satisfy SQL data manipulation requirements. The review of the explanation of the access path allows for a certain level of performance understanding. But, at SQL execution time, other variables will impact actual application performance. All good access path choices don’t always lead to good run time results. This review will provide various examples of common DB2 application performance scenarios and considerations for evaluating execution time variables. The goal of this presentation is to present possible solutions on database design and SQL coding to reduce the impact of run time variables and improve application performance.
10:30-10:45 Break
10:45-12:00 “Safety in Numbers! – How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love IFCID’S – IFCID’s for DB2 Security ”
Presenter: Charles Mills; CorreLog, Inc.
DB2 Security is an ever changing topic – from regulatory requirements to customer SLA’’s. It includes what to audit, what IFCID’s measure the information needed & steps in understanding what needs to be done to feel secure with your system. It reviews what tools are available in general also.
12:00 -1:15 Lunch & Drawings - Sponsored By: CorreLog, Inc.
12:30 -1:00 Demo – Correlog db Defender – Presenter: Charles Mills; CorreLog, Inc.
1:15-2:30 “Top 25 Tuning Tips ”
Presenter: Tony Andrews , Themis Inc.
Most relational tuning experts agree that the majority of performance problems
with applications that access a relational database are caused by poorly coded
programs or improperly coded SQL. Industry experts agree that poorly performing
SQL is responsible for as much as 80 percent of response-time issues. SQL
developers should be informed of the many performance issues associated with the
SQL language and the way they design their programs. It would be especially helpful
if more developers were educated in how to read and analyze DB2 Explain output.
2:30–2:45 Break
2:45-4:00 “DB2 Tuning and Data Studio Overview!”
Presenter: Tony Andrews, Themis Inc.
This presentation will provide a basic overview of Data Studio & how to use it for DB2 Tuning for your systems.
4:00-4:15 Closing
