Take advantage of a complimentary dev ops workshop with IBM – to help you better understand how new technology can help you transform and modernize your Db2 for z/OS applications. Businesses need to deliver faster and more frequently than ever before. In response to these competitive pressures, development organizations are adopting dev ops practices - agile software development, Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery. These practices focus on delivering smaller, more frequent changes, more rapidly. A key foundation to achieve successful implementation is automating the application deployment process, and reducing the overhead and bottlenecks in the application deployment process, while still providing control and change approval for your Db2 for z/OS databases This session also covers, Zowe. The first open source project on z/OS. Zowe is an extensible framework for connecting application and tools to mainframe data and applications. One of the goals of Zowe is to make the mainframe an integrated and agile platform within the changing IT architectural landscape. This workshop is for everybody who wants to get up to speed with the latest technology that is helping mainframe professionals (database administrators, release engineers, architects, etc.) experience ways to modernize their existing Db2 for z/OS development practices.
Objectives:
- Learn about open source languages and tools for mainframe
- Experience the Zowe open source framework
- Learn how an application developer can do self-service schema provisioning
- Understand how to automate the schema change approval process with enforcement of business rules and naming conventions
- Learn how Db2 for z/OS applications can participate in Continuous Delivery / Continuous Integration (CI/CD) automated pipelines

Speaker Bio:
Christoph Theisen is working as a Client Technical Specialist for IBM in Germany. He joined IBM's Global Services unit in 1991 and has been working in several client engagements since then, the majority of them related to Db2 on the Mainframe. Working with Db2 as application developer, database administrator, architect and consultant. Christoph's focus areas are logical and physical database design, Db2 application programming and modernization as well as Db2 connectivity, SQL programming and tuning. He also has expertise in Analytics on Db2 for z/OS and supports customers of IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator in his current role.
Jørn Thyssen has worked more than 15 years on the mainframe platform as a developer, application DBA, application architect, technical field specialist, and more recently as a Db2 tools product specialist for Rocket Software. He is also an 2019 IBM Champion
